THE PROTECTOR-OP ED: DISCORDIA IN SHAMBLES

The ridiculous developments occurring in Discordia recently point to the shambles that is the government and the extent to which corporate entities are willing to go to get a piece of the sweet oil pie.

A well-respected analyst stated: “Things have become ridiculous. I will not be surprised if and when the Discordian government decides to nationalize oil.”

Nonetheless Cromwell was able to redeem itself in the last minute.

The oil companies’ joint venture in Discordia is sketchy to say the least and this is likely to continue to have disastrous consequences for the Discordians.

Discocrom employees have joined the Discordian government in an advisory role. The situation is degrading by the minute.

Bribery, corporate branches seceding to join the corrupt government, even NGOs in need of funding are conspiring with corrupt corporations- what else will we hear?

To what extent are these shameless actors willing to behave irresponsibly? The Discordian people have suffered from this RESOURCE CURSE for long enough.

Furthermore, some corporations were almost suffering the brunt of their damage. The rumors of a potential buyout of British national symbol Cromwell by a supermajor oil company would have meant a loss of heritage.

It remains to be seen how this CSR minded “ethical” corporation will reconcile its policies with Nosferatu.

The news that Cromwell was able to redeem itself in the last minute does not change the fact that it was almost at a great loss.

But perhaps this is the price that we have to pay for years of colonialism and an extension of this colonialism in to the resource industry.

Western companies have been allowed to continue their bad corporate practices for long enough, and this ridiculous situation should serve as a wake-up call to all those who have only thought of plundering another country’s oil for so long.

INTERNATIONAL COMPACT

Discordia 12:30PM

The President of the Allied Governmetn, the Minister of Finance, the Minister of Energy and OpenBooks International just signed the below document into agreement:

The international community is interested in supporting a stable government that fosters a legal and regulatory environment supportive of the basic needs of the people of Discordia.

To this end, the World Bank and the International Financial Corporation are willing to offer significant incentives for transparency of certain government administrative and financial activities.

With support from the World Bank, the International Financial Corporation and Open Books International, there is potential for foreign direct investment and international support for trade.

Requirements:

1. A gradual program to achieve transparent and auditable public reporting of all revenues;
2. Agreement at the governmental level, of the division of revenues between national, state, and local governments including the special provision for oil producing areas;
3. Commitment as to what percentages of the revenues would be spend on education, health and stimulation of industry and agriculture;
4. Consideration of a mechanism for coping with the wide variations in oil price that can be expected over the life of the development and the implications this will have for budgeting.

To confirm compliance, the World Bank and International Financial Corporation require a gradual program to prepare official published report from the Discordia Allied Government stating uses of funds ad a specific timetable for execution. The World Bank requires the OBI stamp of approval for the agreement and periodic reviews of the Compact.

THE PROTECTOR- BREAKING NEWS-CROMWELL STILL INCLUDED IN DISCORDIA

LAST MINUTE DEAL AT 12.29PM. CROMWELL HAS PROVEN TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN SIGNING A JOINT VENTURE WITH NOSFERATU IN OIL DEVELOPMENTS IN DISCORDIA. THIS CONCERNS OFF-SHORE OIL RESOURCES AND THE TWO COMPANIES HAVE AGREED TO SPLIT THE PROFITS EQUALLY. THIS UNPRECEDENTED DEVELOPMENT HAS CAST A POSITIVE LIGHT ON CROMWELL'S TIRELESS EFFORTS TO KEEP THEIR STRONGHOLD IN DISCORDIA. WE HOPE (NAIVELY) THAT THIS JOINT VENTURE PROVES TO BE POSITIVE FOR THE PEOPLE OF DISCORDIA.

Nurture denies rumors

Nurture has made no allegations about government dealings and strongly denies any press releases made on its behalf in this matter. Nurture stands committed to working with the government to implement anti HIV/AIDS and Malaria programs.

THE PROTECTOR-NOSFERATU BUDGET: NGO CHALLENGE?

It was previously reported that the Discordian government was planning a sports stadium in a bid to host the Africa Games 2008. This has now been confirmed as part of the government’s new budget, thanks to Nosferatu.

The question remains: how will it be guaranteed that this oil company will deliver on its aid package, education and other more important issues.

The provisions are in the budget however it has been proven that Nosferatu has behaved irresponsibly in the past.

The onus is on the NGOs who have agreed to cooperate with Nosferatu to ensure that this Shavian company upholds their promises. How they will do so will certainly prove to be a challenge.

James Buchanan Council Considers Lucrative Senior Consulting Role With Nosferatu

Particular members of the James Buchanan Council (JBC) have been approached, and begun serious consideration around a potentially lucrative "senior consulting role" with Nosferatu Oil. Members of the JBC, tired of their low-paying role within the think-tank are ecstatic, and already have been seen being escorted by private drivers to luxurious lake-front property within Discordia. "This deal is completely, 100% legtimate, and not illegal in any sense of the word illegal, or a word which might be considered as a synonym of illegal," quoted one member.

THE PROTECTOR: NO MORE NURTURE FUNDING? [12:25]

THE PROTECTOR: NO MORE NURTURE FUNDING?

Rumors are flying that the relationship between government and Nurture has been severely strained because of the recent false allegation by the latter.

Their funding might be cut as a result.

Losing an NGO right now could be disastrous for the nation. More to follow.

MAJOR CARRUTHERS- DEAD OR ALIVE? GOVERNMENT REFUSES TO COMMENT

Discordian government official confirmed the importance of Major Julian Carruthers but declined further comment on the status of this investigation, if any is undergoing.  Major Carruthers was kidnapped recently and authorities have not announce whether he is dead or alive.

If the government has any information they must reveal it immediately-- their rejection to do so might imply complicity.

ENWEH VILLAGE

The Enweh Village Community wants the country and the government to know that the recent violence perpetrated in and around the Enweh Village is not representative of the beliefs and feelings of the majority of the Enweh Community. It appears, according to members of the village that it is only the youngest members of the community who have aligned themselves with the ARF.

Village Elders are working hard to bring them back into the fold of the community.

Enweh Village wants the country to know that they are committed to peace and unity.

DISCROCROM EMPLOYEES MOVE TO GOVERNMENT

The government confirms that as of 11:40AM this morning, two former Chief Executives of DiscoCrom have resigned their posts and are now in the employ of the Unified Government of Discordia.

According to the former DiscoCrom employees, they made this move because Cromwell International sold DiscoCrom to Nosferatu without informing DiscoCrom management. Said one former CEO, “We refuse to work under the aegis of Nosferatu, and to that end have joined the Discordian Government.”

They have been brought on by the Ministers of Defense and Finance to work in the capacity of Chief Coordinator of Oil and Gas Development.

The government is pleased to have them on board.

Al Gore warns of dire environmental consequences if Sout-bound Pipe line goes through

Former VP Al Gore warns that if the South-Bound pipeline in Discordia goes through it will have dire consequences for the environment; Verdent Future says. Verdent Future are famous for their high profile stunts and engagmenets with famous people and Al Gore is just one of many to support their cause.

Verdant Future has come forth with the support of Al Gore and said particularly the Yellow Centaur and the Spotted Dormouse, Dwarf Rhino and Three-toed Satyr are in grave danger.

THE PROTECTOR: NO PLANS FOR REVENUE SHARING, SAYS NOSFERATU [12:07]

THE PROTECTOR: NO PLANS FOR REVENUE SHARING, SAYS NOSFERATU

A Nosferatu rep has said that there is no plan of revenue sharing with the Enweh villagers--definitely not so far and likely not in the future.

Though they were approached by a DiscoCrom (former) employee who claimed to have such contracts, Nosferatu does not have such contractual agreements and doesn't plan to make any.

Enweh's reaction will come shortly.

CROMWELL'S SHAKY ETHICS UNMASKED BY THEIR OWN

A former Discocrom employee has revealed that Discrocrom employees were sold to Nosferatu by Cromwell oil in an apparent "behind our backs" move. These employees have now confirmed that Discrocrom products were an integral part of weapons manufacture for the Discordian government. The employee has also confirmed that her sources indicate Nosferatu has funded the arming of rival factions in the government, claims made by local villagers as well.

To protest what they call a lapse in Cromwell's ethical standards, Discocrom employees have resigned and are serving the government in advisory roles. As reported earlier, the Cromwell/Nosferatu deal has, in the meantime, endangered agreements brokered to benefit the local Enwei Villagers.

WPDB- NGOs JOINT STATEMENT ON GOVERNMENT-NOSFERATU OIL DEAL

The NGO community in Discordia reiterate their concerns on the following issues:

1) That any oil venture move forward only after a careful socioeconomic and environmental impact assessment by a respected, independent consultant.
2) That the findings of such an assessment be shared with all stakeholders, including the government, community actors and NGOs
3) That all parties identify mutual areas of cooperation and interest, and work towards these, while realizing the needs and priorities of each actor.
4) That the human rights, social, economic and environmental concerns of all Discordians are taken into account, and that this is recognized as the only way in which a profitable and sustainable future for the country can be assured- today's quick profits are no assurance for tomorrow's wealth.

Despite the previous lack of communication between Nosferatu, the government, and the NGO communities, we look forward to future communication between all parties, including the community groups, on these points.

This statement is signed by Shared Heritage, Humanity First, Nurture and Verdant Future

Nosferatu Denies Kickbacks

Nosferatu Oil vehemently denies the claims that there are kickbacks involved in the recent contract signed between Nosferatu and the Discordian government for the development of Block 77.  Nosferatu would also like to add that there no "lakes" in Discordia on which to to build the said "palace" mentioned by the unknown government official.

WPDB: Enwei Villagers' Discocrom Revenue Sharing Up in Air

The Patriot has learned that, before Discocrom was sold by Cromwell Oil to Nosferatu, the Enwei Villagers signed a contract with the company regarding revenue sharing for villagers. Villagers are now worried about the future of this agreement and have announced that they expect Nosforatu to comply with this agreement. If the company does not, they have promised to seek redress.

NURTURE - $100 million in kickbacks in deal

There are more than$100 million in kickbacks in the Nosferatu deal for government officials. A government official was quoted saying ¨I will have a lake front palace.¨

Cromwell Stock reaches a new low!

After losing the deal on Block 77 in Discordia and subsequently selling the very profitable subsidiary DiscoCrom Cromwell Oil is in a dire state.

The companies stock reached a new low at 358 leaving speculators wondering if it's only a matter of time before Cromwell will be forced to either close down or sell out?

Cromwell Stock reaches a new low!

After losing the deal on Block 77 in Discordia and subsequently selling the very profitable subsidiary DiscoCrom Cromwell Oil is in a dire state.

The companies stock reached a new low at 358 leaving speculators wondering if it's only a matter of time before Cromwell will be forced to either close down or sell out?

The Mentor - Cromwell's Collapse and What Does it Mean for Great Britain

Confusion rages across Discordia. In the wake of Nosferatu winning the contract to develop Block 77 it seems that mass chaos is still the flavor of the day as everyone is either looking to ensure they get a cut of the deal or that their interests are still taken care of.

However the biggest concern we see coming out of this is what this deal may mean for the future of Cromwell and the British economy. It appears in all likelihood that Cromwell's plummeting stock price will open itself up to a potential buyout by a "supermajor" oil company. It remains to be seen whether or not those companies will still be interested in the once proud British company in light of their losing out on Block 77.

Cromwell is planning to stick by their ethics and look for opportunities outside of Discordia to bolster their position. It is imperative that they begin to reasses their managerial outlook and possibly change their corporate management to better steer the company in the future.

THE PROTECTOR: PRESIDENT AND VP DISAGREEING ON USE OF FORCE [11:54]

THE PROTECTOR: PRESIDENT AND VP DISAGREEING ON USE OF FORCE

It seems that the president and the vice president of Discordia are in, well, discord.

A source close to the government tells us that the two have very different approaches and opinions on reacting to the violence around Enweh.

The VP wants to be in control of the military to a strong degree, and wants forces in strategic locations. Our source affirmed that the VP even believes the police to be corrupt. What this means for his own plans for forces is uncertain.

The president, however, wants to take a more cautious approach, but has not released details of his plans yet. One can probably assume, though, that they involve less force, less arms, and less opportunity for disarray.

With Nosferatu poised to enter the country, this disagreement is a very bad sign for Discordia. With the nation itself in chaos as well as the President and VP disagreeing on a solution, the impact of Nosferatu--especially thanks to its lack of ethical committments--could have severe impacts for the nation.

The government denies these allegations.

Is this the future of Enweh:

Small villages all over Africa have been influenced by oil production.

Here is an image from a village in Nigeria that was taken over by Big Oil.

WPDB: Nosferatu's Goals in Area & Governmental Incentives

The Washington Patriot has received anonymous reports regarding profit assessments made by Nosferatu for the Block 77 oil development project. Our sources indicate that Nosferatu's interests in Discordia include future development beyond Block 77. We have also received word that, in order to attract Nosferatu's involvement in Block 77, the government has offered tax credits on oil produced by the company.

Discordian Government says "Not ready to comment on Nationalization of Natural Resources"

The government says they are still working with Nosferatu and will honor their commitments.

In light of the recent buy-up of DiscoCrom by Nosferatu their is concern of increased levels of violence in the country.

Many people on the streets are still angry with the deal, which they felt were done under the table and did not honor the governments commitments to the people.

The Mentor - Nosfertu¹s Ethics Questioned Bribed Way into Discordia?

Cromwell is asserting that $150 million dollars worth of bonuses for
government officials allocated as ³deficit² funding is what solidified the
Nosferatu¹s contract with the Discordian Government, which is a clearly
unethical play made by Nosferatu if proven correct.

In a statement to Mentor by the President of the Discordian government. ³The
Government has best interests of people in mind. Deal with Nosfertu makes
substantial investments in development projects.

NGOS such as Nurture are still postive about the deal as money for projects
has been alloicated as part of the contract. However, if any of these
allocations are not fulfilled it may signify a break in the license to
operate established by NGO support.

Another point of concern is the location of the pipeline, with several
proposed locations, various actors are concerned about implications for the
environment as well as the communities living in and around prospective
sites of construction. Share Heritage is concerned with placement of
pipeline and is hopeful that Nosferatu will take into account all
environmental and humanitarian implications voiced by the NGO community.

With Nosferatu¹s ethical reputation in question, many may be in store for
disappointments as the project plans are revealed.

Shared Heritage and Washington Patriot to carry out Environmental Photo Series on Discordia

Famous nature photgrapher and wife of the editor of the WP Clara Wishart-McCoy (seen above) is on way to Discordia to do a photo series on the countries endangered species and unique environment.

The trip is taken with the support of Shared Heritage who are supporting the trip

The images will be posted in the WP as well as given to Shared Heritage to raise awareness for the cause.

Vice President to "Directly Supervise" the Military

Gladstone Guardian (11:44 AM)

In response to the lack of security within the country, the generals of the Defense Ministry from the Northwest Alliance, under the supervision of the Defense Minsitry and the direct supervision of the Vice President are going to take supress violence, the details of the plan will be agreed upon internally, the Vice President stated that he would like to see "an end to violence as soon as possible."

CDUL brokers alliance with Unity Government, ARF and NGOs

The unity government of Discordia just announced that they have come to an agreement with ARF via the CDUL which will dissipate the tensions in the province of Block 77 and prevent civil war and dispel tensions between the militia and the government. Under the terms of the agreement, the government will allocate $360 million in oil funds to the province which would go to health, environmental, social and infrastructure programs. The ARF members will be pardoned by the government, and no reprisals against their members will take place. In return, the ARF has agreed to a permanent ceasefire as long as CDUL and other nonprofit organizations including Shared Heritage, Nurture and Discordia Amity League, receive funding for development projects over the next period.

The unity government and the ARF are in talks to create an advisory council that will be comprised of Defense Ministry officials and senior ARF members, to ensure their continued cooperation.

Cromwell Press release: Comment on Sale of DiscoCrom

Cromwell Oil has taken the decision to sell DiscoCrom to Nosferatu for the sum of $10 million.

This decision was a result of DiscoCrom's illicit association with selling of lubricants used by armed groups to commit human rights violations.

Cromwell Oil is pleased to state that it maintains full compliance with its rigorous ethical standards.

Miley Cyrus will be composing a song to celebrate the divestiture of DiscoCrom

Vice President "Seriously Unhappy" With SItuation

Gladstone Guardian (11:43 AM)

The Vice President is "seriously unhappy" with the situation unfolding in Enweh village and the violence that has taken the life of a high ranking government minister. The Vice President is currently attempting to negotiate to take over position as the Minsiter of Defense temporarily. Thus far, the government has only stated that it will dispatch the military in order to restore order in the volatile region. "We do not negotiate with terrorists," a government official stated, "but we will work with the CDUL to clear things up in the region."

"STOP THE MASSACRE!"

Shared Heritage gets permission to set up Permanent mission in Discordia

Shared Heritage is excited about the development.

THE PROTECTOR: GOVERNMENT WILL TRY TO FOLLOW ENVIRO NORMS W/NOSFERATU

Shared Heritage has just stated that the President of the Gangor Valley government is going to try to be more environmentally friendly

In their deals with Nosferatu, the SH rep said, the government is going to try to go along with international norms with regard to environmental protection. An environmental assessment will be done, either by Nosferatu or by the government itself, if there are any difficulties getting Nosferatu to do so.

This is a sign of proactivity, but is it too little, too late?

What will happen to the Dwarf Rhino?

With the current developments in Discordia many environmentalists are left wondering if the new oil deal will honor Cromwells commitment to the environment.

Discordia is the home of many endangered species among the Dwarf Rhino, one of the savannahs more majestic animals; viewed in all it's might above.

Shared Heritage confirms that the government is trying to presure Nosferatu to do an environmental assemenet report based on which the company should take action

Discordian government commits to provide 80% of required funds for 5 year Cocoa Weevil

Discordian farmers scored a victory in their bid for sustainable agriculture today with the government committing to provide substantial funds for this project to be directed by Nurture.

Nurture, which secured technology to battle this agricultural scourge will provide technical assistance to cocoa farmers (Cocoa is 6% of Discordia's GDP) who have hitherto been unable to sustain their crop. This will help reduce environmentally hazardous slash and burn farming and spur economic growth.

Nurture is pleased to align with the government in this venture.

THE PROTECTOR: "Government can reconsider"? Cromwell-Nosferatu Alliance?

The recent breaking news of the government handing over control of Block 77 development to Nosferatu has fuelled strong reaction in Discordia.

Cromwell’s statement thus far: “We are shocked and in disbelief at this development, we sincerely hope that the country will survive this disaster and we are still open to negotiating with the Discordians.”

A source close to Cromwell expressed hope that they would reconsider “This is Discordia, the government can reconsider!” stated an incredulous source.

Indeed an official Cromnwell executive was seen in a desperate attempt trying to convince the Discordian government “we can meet your demands.”

The rumour mill was running wild as another source close to Cromwell was heard apparently telling a Nosferatu board member: “you could not afford us even if you wanted”. Cromwell could be incorporated in this deal somehow, but on what terms?

The corporate fiasco continues while all actors, including the NGO community have so far been silent on these developments and what they spell for the people of Discordia.

Rumors That Block 77 Has Been Compromised

The Guardian (11;31 AM)

Rumors that Block 77has been compromised by the ARF are "not true at all," says an official government offical. "Nosferatu is confident in the ability of the government to handle its affairs," a spokesman stated. "Nosferatu wishes the government the best in this scandal." These are rumors and are completely unbased and unfounded, the government is in complete control of the situation," reiterated another government statement.

The Mentor - Nosferatu Signs Agreement - Cromwell May be brought into the deal

While Nosferatu has officially signed the oil contract for the
development of Block 77 with Nosferatu. There is speculation that Nosferatu
is in talks with the Cromwell as a potential contractor to build the
pipeline. Previously several NGOS working on environmental and humanitarian
issues voiced concern about Nosferatu¹s unwillingness to sign the OPI
Transparency Agreement.

A coalition of NGOs, including Nuture, Humanity First, Shared Heritage,
Verdant Future, Open Book International, have been in talks with both
British Oil Company, Cromwell, as well as the Shavian company Nosferatu.
According to Nuture, positive headway had previously been made as Cromwell
has signed the transparency agreement. This may be integral to for Nosferatu
to gain a license to operate with stakholders on the ground, using a more
ethically viewed company to actually construct the facilities and pipeline.
on the ground.

WPDB - Cromwell: "Nosferatu Rejects Transparency Proposal"

Representatives Cromwell Oil, who was recently denied access to Discordian oil resources, have announced that they had previously approached Nosferatu asking them to agree to an open-transparency agreement with Open Books Institute. According to Cromwell, their requests for the company to consent to Open Book involvement in ensuring transparency and anti-corruption went unheeded. Nosferatu has yet to endorse this agreement

WPDB: ALWI RESISTANCE FRONT KILLS GOVERNMENT OFFICIAL

Representatives of the Alwi Resistance Front have announced the murder of a high ranking Northwest Alliance government official, Askat M Djumabaev. The ARF announce that the murder was meant to protest a recent deal between the Discordian government and Nosferatu wherein the company was given the right to extract oil in the nation. The ARF believes their interests are not respected by the deal, and demand jobs, security and representation from the government

ARF Frustrated With Government Deal, Government Promises Equity

"This deal will not distribute jobs to us, we are totally frustrated and angry. Only when the government guarantees us jobs will we stop doing these things [killings]," said an ARF spokesman. A government spokesman stated that the money injected into the region will create "jobs and prosperity for all Discordians. This will be great for the people." The spokesman also stated that the jobs will be distributed "equally with the budget allocation", the money will be allocated equally throughout the country.

Verdent Future Kidnap Nosferatu VP

According to the BBC Nosferatu VP Mr. Buchensky stated that he would not press charges against Verdant Future. He called the three female kidnappers 'Charming' and said "This was a prank. Not a crime."

In addition, the VP said the ladies had raised some interesting points that he would take into consideration in developing Block 77 in Discordia

Cromwell Lost Discordia deal

Cromwell has issued statement to DiscoCrom informing them to stop production of lubricant for the Discordian army.  DiscoCrom is currently taking the matter under advisement

WASHINGTON PATRIOT: FRONT PAGE - DISCOCROM LINKED TO DISCORDIA MILITARY

The Patriot has received crucial information regarding the weaponization of DiscoCrom's products, more specifically the production of lubricants.

A high ranked anonymous government representative confirmed that DiscoCrom's production of lubricants has been an essential part of the government's armed forces, more specifically their weapons since the company's inception in 1919.

Cromwell wants to maintain a positive relationship with the Discordian government but they have confirmed that the country's armed forces indeed depend on the lubricants produced by DiscoCrom.

Representatives from the James Buchanan counsel, a premier source of independent information in Eastern Europe, the near East and increasingly Africa stated that "DiscoCrom's lubricants are essential for the Discordian military to carry out any air attacks".

This comes in the wake of earlier reports from Humanity First, a human rights NGO, that Discordian air forces have been attacking Alwi settlements.

In a potentially related story, Cromwell officials denied any link or knowledge of Major Julian Carruthers, a well-known figure in the local mercenary world, who was kidnapped amongst nine ex British and ex Belgium army officers.

Nurture secures complete funding for HIV/AIDS initiatives in Discordia

Nurture has secured a commitment for 100% funding of its HIV/AIDS initiative from the Discordian government. The funds will be drawn from oil revenues, government sources say.

BREAKING NEWS! UNITED GOVERNMENT OF DISCORDIA MAKES THE DEAL OF THE CENTURY!

The government of Discordia signed a deal with the Nosferatu Oil Company to initiate the development of Block 77. This decision has come after careful considerations of competing offers and consultations with other stakeholders. The contract stipulates that $720 million will be allocated for special development projects within the country, equally divided between the Gangor Delta and North-West areas. The government will hold a 51% stake in the venture and Nosferatu will hold the remaining 49%. The project will be controlled by the government with the guidance of NGOs to ensure safety and transparency.
It involves developing a pipeline extended throughout the south region into Beaconsfield and will ensure the development of infrastructure and industry. Some of the specific projects include:
Rehabilitation of Beaconsfield Port Facilities
Electric Power Supply for Beaconsfield along with hydroelectric power
Establishment of a Fertilizer Industry
Development of Schools and Hospitals throughout the NW area.
Significant Medical Aid package
Substantial investment in the local community of Block 77.
Stadium for the Africa Games

Furthermore, any allegations that Nosferatu was responsible for the violence in the Block 77 area are completely false and are a manufactured by competitors. The government is pursuing negotiations with CDUL to ensure stable relations within the region.

This deal will ultimately eliminate the country’s dependence on foreign energy and at the same time providing Discordia with long anticipated infrastructure.

THE PROTECTOR: BREAKING: UPDATE ON KIDNAPPING [11:06]

BREAKING: UPDATE ON KIDNAPPING [11:06]

Nosferatu has made a statement that their VP is alive and well, directly contradicting Verdant's statement of kidnapping.

It is difficult to tell which group is telling the truth at this point. Regardless, this action will have a heavy impact either way. Will Verdant be kicked out of Discordia again? Will Nosferatu's stock fall due to shareholder panic, regardless of whether or not the VP is actually kidnapped?

The Protector was told both sides of the story by members of each group, not secondary sources. This implies that one side is being less truthful than the other.

Issues of transparency still loom large.

The ARF opens up

An ARF representative stepped forward and talked to the press. The former Enweh villager said the ARF had supported the NWA, but after finding out that the NWA was cutting deals with Nosferadu and not living up to their promises the ARF decided to take up arms.

Neither Nosferadu nor the Government is willing to comment on this, but the NWA is adament that they are NOT working with the ARF.

The ARF says they want to kill the top government officials and are prepared to fight, unless the Cromwell oil deal goes through.

Regardless, ARF confirms: "We will never disarm."

THE PROTECTOR: CROMWELL STILL EMPLOYING BEOWULF DESPITE LINKS TO CONFLICT, STOCK TRADING AT 369

The actions of Cromwell in Discordia appear to be in the spotlight for various reasons, they retracted their aggressive statements regarding Nosferatu earlier today.

However The Protector is reminding its readers that Cromwell still has a lot to answer for with regards to their hiring of Beowulf Security, links to a known insurgency.

The Protector has been monitoring this issue closely and was awaiting statements by Cromwell on this issue but the vague statements finally given today are not enough.

This issue is very important. The known links between Managing Director of Beowulf Julian Carruthers, and his brother being confirmed in the insurgency in Hortensia are still there.

This is certainly a brave decision by Cromwell. How can they continue to hire figures known in the mercenary world when they berate Nosferatu for fuelling conflict in Discordia? This decision appears to be somewhat irresponsible and risky to say the least.

The lack of transparency and assurances that “we are monitoring the issue” are not enough. "Since we can not find anything on Beowulf we will continue to employ them” stated a Cromwell spokesperson.

This is a risky choice at a time when Cromwell is facing such serious difficulties as a company. Their stock continues to drop and is now trading at 369.

GENERALS’ REINSTATEMENT NOW OFFICIAL

The Unified Government of Discordia has reinstated the generals that were recently fired on baseless grounds by Minister of Defense, William Halakazi, the President’s nephew.

The President is correcting this erroneous situation and has dismissed the Minister of Defense from his post. The President is in the process of nominating a trustworthy person to replace the Minister; someone who will contribute to the unified goals of the government.

This move by the President will restore equality and integrity to the army.

THE PROTECTOR: VERDANT KIDNAPS VP OF NOSFERATU [10:58]

BREAKING: VERDANT KIDNAPS VP OF NOSFERATU [10:58]

Verdant Future has told us that they have kidnapped the VP of Nosferatu in Shavia, in protest of Nosferatu.

"He will not be released until they sign an agreement not to drill in Endor Valley," says a rep from Verdant.

Nosferatu denies allegations that their VP has been kidnapped.

More news as it arises.

HUMANITY FIRST

Humanity First meets with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to denounce the alarming human rights situation in Discordia.

After giving testimony before the UN Human Rights Committee, Humanity First met today with the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and expressed their concerns about the alarming situation of Human Rights in Discordia. The organization expressed their worries about the recent escalation of violence in the country derived from the conflict between the central government and the Alwi Resistance Front (ARF), and the possible role of two private oil companies in fueling the conflict through the supply of weapons and lubricants to both the National Army and the rebels.

Additionally, Humanity First denounced the unlawful detainment of Jethro Minyura, a peaceful farmer who was arrested for protesting environmental devastation caused on the river near his village, and the economic hardship that was suffered as a result of the toxic chemical leak. Mr. Ki-moon declared that he would talk to the Discordian government in order to ensure that Mr. Minyura is treated with all the legal guarantees. Mr. Ki-moon also commented on the precarious health situation of the African country, stating that “both the government and economic actors should work together in order to stop the alarming spread of HIV/AIDS in the region”.

An anonymous source from the Alwi Resistance Front (ARF), known only as “Maya”, recently tried to convince The Gladstone Guardian that they were not responsible for the recent bombings in Enweh Village. The bombings are believed to have killed several school children and 5 adults, according to the Washington Patriot.

The ARF, a reactionary organization that only seeks to create conflict and possible civil war in Discordia, has laid claims that Nosferatu Oil International was responsible for the violence in an effort to discredit Cromwell Oil.

“Maya” even went so far as to claim that unless the ARF is able to meet with the government they are, “prepared to take over the entire Block 77 Area with the full backing of the community.”

Cromwell Oil has also recently tried to place blame on Nosferatu for the violence by stating that they “are known to use unethical tactics in order to achieve their goals”.

This paper and the United Government of Discordia believe that as a result of Cromwell’s displeasure with the progress of their negotiations with the government that they are working to discredit their competitors for the government contract for Block 77.

However, after a thorough and independent investigation by this paper and reliable government and Nosferatu sources, The Guardian can confidently report that Nosferatu was NOT responsible for any of the recent violence that took place in and around Enweh Village.

The false claims by the ARF and Cromwell against Nosferatu are believed to be motivated by each group’s individual agendas and only serve to create further discord in our great country.

All attempts to discredit Nosferatu by any party has been disproven as manipulative and untrustworthy attempts to sway Discordian public opinion and influence the government against the oil company.

The government remains unified and united for the good of Discordia.

The Mentor - The Day the DiscrCrom Died?

Perhaps it is time for Cromwell to right its ship and divest itself of its increasingly problematic subsidiary DiscoCrom. Cromwell's actions appear to be all over the place this morning from the sensational accusation that its chief rival Nosferatu is directly responsible for today's bombing of the Enweh Village to its silence on the fact that its products are being used by DiscoCrom to fuel military operations.

Crowwell insists that it is a full transparent company and has been assuring us all along that DiscoCrom is in full compliance with Cromwell's committment to its ethic and open door policies. Yet now they are sitting back and allowing DiscoCrom to stay silent if it wishes.

If Cromwell is to indeed maintain its standing as a ethicial operator it must quickly right the anchor around it that DiscoCrom appears to be. If Cromwell cannot control its subsidary the Cromwell should consider divesting itself of DiscoCrom.

While the Mentor believes that a company should not be held responsible for what is done with its products once it leaves the warehouse door if Cromwell wants to be transparent then its subsidary needs to be as well.

THE PROTECTOR: NOSFERATU REFUSES TRANSPARENCY AGREEMENT [10:52]

THE PROTECTOR: NOSFERATU REFUSES TRANSPARENCY AGREEMENT [10:52]

A group of NGOs including Nurture, H1, and Shared Heritage are upset at Nosferatu and their resistance to transparency.

While Cromwell signed the transparency agreement that they put forward, Nosferatu unsurprisingly did not.

A rep from one of the NGOs said that these groups can move forward only if these companies are transparent, and that if Nosferatu is not transparent, it casts a bad shadow on already shady company practices.

THE PROTECTOR: CROWMELL'S PUBLIC RAMPAGE MEANS STOCK PLUMMETS

Cromwell’s rampage on Nosferatu has affected them in an unprecedented way: their stock has plummeted to 379.

It appears that their attempt to make Shavian oil company Nosferatu appear guilty of bombing a village in Discordia has backfired. Regardless of which side is telling the truth in this corporate blame game, Cromwell is suffering for its inflammatory statement.

It appears that 10 Downing St is also advising that Cromwell’s PR team reinforce its image in the wake of this public fiasco which has led to shareholder insecurity.

Allegations fly high as Cromwell Stock plummets

The London Stock Exchange reported yesterday that Cromwell attacked Shavia's national oil company Nosferatu and that it was complicit in the bombing of a village in Discordia resulted in Paranoia on the LSE.

British diplomats are currently in hard heated debates withthe Shavian government and the British government have had to do some serious damage control.

The issue led to a plummet in Cromwell stock, which ended in 378 last night.

Cromwell is working on the issue and is said to report a press release later in the day.

Open Books International have come forth and said that they still prefer that Cromwell undertake the development of Block 77. Cromwell is a highly transparent company; and even though the Discordian government is in a state of disarray, they find that transparent companies can provide leverage and best practice that fosters sustainable development.

OBI is addament that Nosferadu should not get the contract to develop the Block 77.

THE PROTECTOR: OIL COMPANIES BLAME GAME WHILE DISCORDIANS SUFFER

Amidst claims that Nosferatu had provided support to forces alleged to have bombed the Enweh villagers, Nosferatu board members are currently in informal talks with the Enweh villagers. The executives stated exclusively to The Protector that the bombing was a tragedy and they vehemently denied that they had anyhing to do with the bombing.

One company executive added “Discocrom is the one supplying the lubricants, they are they only ones supplying weapons and responsible for military action in Discordia. Any military action is directly linked to them”. Another added “Ask yourself whose intention it is to spread these lies”.

Regardless of this corporate fiasco and blame game, the Discordians consider to suffer at the hands of merciless, irresponsible corporations.

ARF leader confirms: "We represent the NWA"

Defense Minister In Danger, Bodyguard Killed

The Gladstone Guardian (10:40 AM)

The Guardian is alarmed at recent reports that a bodyguard of the Minister of Defense has been killed and immediate action has been threatened against the Minister of Defense if the villagers requests are not met. The Defense Minister stated “as the officer in charge of national security, I will not tolerate any illegal use of violence to disrupt society, I call for all members of the ARF to give up their resorts to violence and to resolve the differences with the government through peaceful means” A member of the ARF has recently stated that, “the villagers are very angry and have decided to wound the Minister of Defense, because we are frustrated with government propaganda and promises for meetings that they have not achieved. They only represent the oil company’s interest, we are marginalized. We have to apply more pressure!" The spokesman for the ARF has stated that, "they [the government] have promised us jobs and investment, but this is propaganda because we have heard these promises but have not achieved them. Only when the government has achieved their commitment, we will cooperate with them." The Guardian is alarmed to see young villagers have joined the ARF because of the lack of jobs and the lost confidence in the government. "Wounding the Minster of Defense was a small pinch," says the ARF spokesman.
A spokesman for the NW Alliance stated that the government regrets the loss of life of the Defense Minsiter’s guard that has increased the number of victims of the ARF. "The ARF has become a destructive force working against the peace of Discordia but we hope we can reach a reasonable dialogue with them and diffuse tension." “Jobs will be created immediately when the oil contracts go through,” a spokesman promised, “they have to be patient.” "We will continue to kill the senior official of the government until they give the money directly to us, we hate their propaganda and don’t want to hear it anymore," stated the ARF spokesman in conclusion.

WPDB: CROMWELL/CDUL: NOSFERATU BEHIND VILLAGE ATTACKS

Cromwell Oil has announced that credible sources within the CDUL believe Nosferatu has orchestrated the recent attacks on a village near Enwei within Discordia. The CDUL is an independent organization promoting harmony within the nation. If true, these developments openly contradict Nosferatu's stated interests in preserving harmony and peace in the area.

WPDB: DiscoCrom's Products, WEAPONIZED? - UPDATE

The Washington Patriot reported earlier (see article below) on recently unveiled uncertainty regarding DiscoCrom's business purpose in Discordia.  DiscoCrom is a Cromwell subsidiary established in Discordia since 1919 focused on selling lubricants amongst other products.  Last evening, Ms. Natasha stated that the products are mainly produced for "internal consumption" with very little remaining exports to Europe.

Cromwell, DiscoCrom's parent company, had an unrelated press conference earlier today.  When asked by the Washington Patriot regarding DiscoCrom's business ethics, Mr. Kiyaei stated "we have no control over what is done with our products once they leave our warehouse".  This is an appalling statement given that their Corporate Social Responsibility has been an (arguably?) integral part of the company's mission.

Discordia's government, its people, every stakeholder and the international community need answers and a list of clients would open the doors to a fair investigation.  Ms. Natasha is scheduled to speak with the Washington Patriot in circa 1 hour to make a statement.

WPDB: DiscoCrom Products, WEAPONIZED?

Ms. Natasha, a representative of DiscoCrom, has confirmed rumors of the weaponization of DiscoCrom products in Discordia.

Pressed by the Washington Patriot regarding their major clients and their potential links to said weaponization, Ms. Natasha declined comments, citing "confidentiality agreements with clients who requested such non-disclosure agreements".

Silent compliance is a serious issue.  Clearly crucial questions abound and demand immediate answers by DiscoCrom and its parent company, Cromwell.

The company is scheduled to issue a statement regarding this issue tomorrow morning EST.

THE PROTECTOR: CDUL HAS GOOD INTENTIONS WITH TALKS [10:33]

THE PROTECTOR: CDUL HAS GOOD INTENTIONS WITH TALKS [10:33]

Facing accusations of partisanship and factionality, the CDUL made an official statement that their joint talks with the ARF and the Discordian government have good intentions only.

The CDUL stresses that they are not trying to cause further factional lines within Discordia or even within their own group. They are not siding with one side over the other, nor promoting the ARF in any way: they are only trying to calm the factions down in this time of tension.

The CDUL wants to remind all involved that they are a united NGO with non-partisanship as a basic tenet.

Their statement is interesting in the light of Discordian conflict: could this kind of reassurance be to combat ARF/government relations that are crumbling even worse than anyone thought?

Hopefully, these sorts of non-partisan talks facilitated by such NGOs will create positive change.

THE PROTECTOR: NOSFERATU "TRYING TO CREATE DICTATORSHIP IN DISCORDIA?"

A reliable source close to Cromwell has stated that there are reports that Nosferatu is supplying arms to the government and is “working hard to create a dictatorship in Discordia, that is their ultimate aim”. The source stated that Noseferatu’s goals are to support the military strength of the Discordian government in light of recent events in the conflict-ridden state. The fact remains that Nosferatu does appear to be attempting to create a stronghold in Discordia.. When asked on Nosferatu-Cromwell relations at present the source stated “they are very bad indeed”. A Nosferatu spokesperson had previously stated that the two companies had very good relations.

WPDB: Verdant Future Holds Protests in Three Cities

Verdant Future has announced that three protests will be held in three cities - London, Paris and Washington, DC wherein upwards of 10,000 protesters per city. The purpose of the initiative is to protest oil development in Discordia. The group argues that neither Cromwell nor Nosferatu have adhered to proper environmental standards for oil development, including promises against pipelines going through Endor Valley.

Weevil Eradication Cost/Benefit Analysis; Cost of project will pay for itself in first year

Weevil Eradication Cost/Benefit Analysis; Cost of project will pay for itself in first year.

Judging from the analysis of the recent pilot program for Weevil eradication in Discordia - the Buchanan Institution estimates that the cost of eliminating Weevils from the agricultural industry will pay for itself within the first year. The cost of funding would be between $10-$20 million, and the government will see immediate export increases of $20 million within the first year. This is especially important for the Discordian Government, given that their plans to create a fertilizer industry was stalled.

THE PROTECTOR: NOSFERATU "THE OIL DEVIL," VERDANT SAYS [10:28]

THE PROTECTOR: NOSFERATU "THE OIL DEVIL," VERDANT SAYS [10:28]

Verdant, one of most radical NGOs in the Discordia conflict, has stated today that Cromwell is actually the "lesser of two evils," and that Nosferatu is the "oil devil."

This may be a surprise to many who remember Verdant's protests against Cromwell--and their subsequent, unfair exile from Discordia for a while--but in light of recent Nosferatu discoveries, it makes sense.

Rumors of arm trading on both ARF and government sides are flying, and Nosferatu is known for being far less transparent than Cromwell on all ethical and environmental issues.

Though Verdant would choose Cromwell over Nosferatu, they want to stress that they will not be attending Cromwell's upcoming rally in protest of the fact that Cromwell's pipeline will, they say, pass through the delicate and fragile Endor valley.

THE PROTECTOR: Business Report CROMWELL STOCK DROPS

Cromwell’s stock has dropped to 392 thanks to the news that Nosferatu is negotiating a stake in Block 77. "Any gain by Nosferatu will be at the expense of Cromwell," says Giles Winterbourne, noted industry analyst. "Norferatu is essentially part of Shavia Incorporated, the united front which the Central European country of Shavia presents in its dealings with the outside world, uniting industrial, banking and commercial interests and backing them with the Shavian government's economic and diplomatic muscle." This could spell danger for already weakening Cromwell.

Government Agreement With Shared Heritage

The Guardian (10:22 AM)

The government of Discordia has reached an agreement with the international NGO Shared Heritage that the government of Discordia approves that Shared Heritage can establish an office and operate in Discordia to further their efforts in preserving the governments and agreements and sustainable development in general. “Shared Heritage is a good group, we have decided that preserving the environment is a good thing to do and all well meaning people all over the world should do that.” The spokesman has stated that the government will do their best to attract “international funding for Discordia’s development and environmental preservation.” “We welcome this kind of agreement,” says a spokesman for the Northwest Alliance.

The Mentor - Government Returns to the Table

The unity government has returned to talks with the CDUL, which is acting as mediator between the ARF and CDUL.

CDUL states that their interest is preventing the outbreak of a total civil war in Discordia

The Mentor - Cronwell to Divest Its Share of Latinia Joint Venture?

One cannot help but wonder if the he proposed joint standards document that is being worked on between Cromwell and Nosfertau could be dead on arrival. The Mentor has learned that Cromwell is leaning towards divesting its share in the Latinia joint venture between itself and Nosferatu.

The public face of this is that there is a "low prospect of exploration success" however the true reason, one confirmed by Cromwell is that it refuses to comprise its ethical standards and is gravely concerned about the incompatible nature between itself and Nosferatu's working standards.

While Cromwell maintains that it will not waiver on its standards, the Mentor cannot help but begin to wonder what this means for the potential joint standards document. Can the two companies reach any kind of shared ground so that work can begin and if so what will keep either company to their word? That all remains to be seen.

The Mentor - The Destruction of Discordia¹s Environment and a Potential Industry

In recent weeks, Discordia has seen its government pull together
a unified front largely in its attempt to finalize a formal oil contract,
which will bring a much needed source of capital infusion for the poor
country. The country has seen increased violence as rebel factions have
gained arms and have been implicated in several violent outbursts on the
ground.

Both the outbreak of a civil war and the potential negative
environmental implications of oil production could serve to destroy the
Discordia¹s most precious economic resource, its in environment. In many
African countries, eco-tourism can provide a large portion of GDP. In a
country like Gabon for example, which is similar to Discordia in that it has
large oil reserves and has been plagued by civil war, tourism makes up 37%
of GDP. Environmental conservation is the key to a thriving eco-tourism
industry.

While oil production provides a large source of economic growth through oil
revenue and taxes, it is capital intensive and does not address the
significant level of employment that ravages the country. Tourism on the
other hand provides the makings of a major service industry. The development
of a tourism industry would provide needed economic stimulus and foster
social stability. make contracts more viable.

However if certain companies that make no formal commitments to protecting
environmental standards were to get the deal such as Nosferatu, then
Discordia may be doomed to be reliant on a single industry to support its
economy. With a lack of job production by the oil company, it would be in a
in a constant state of widespread unemployment.

Shared Heritage has formally announced that it is hopeful in establishing a
new ³flagship² developent program in Discrodia. Although many are facing
tough economic times in light of the financial crisis, Shared Heritage has
increased funds from its private donors and US and UK governments. Shared
Heritage has voiced its concerns about Nosferatu¹s lack of ethical policies
which could undermine the huge potential for ecotourism revenue that could
be the only hope for the country.

The Mentor - Rebel Faction to Join ARF

The Mentor has learned that a small rebel Enweh faction has decided that enough is enough and that because they are tired of being ignored by the government that the faction will join the ARF. They have announced their intention to kill the defense minister and continue with an armed resistance against the government.

The rebels said, "We have been left with no choice. We need to feed our families and are tired of being ignored by the government."

WPDB: Bombing - New Information

The Enweh People have released further information regarding the bombing of a village in Discordia that may have killed approximately 5 individuals. The Enweh Villagers have now determined that a village near Enweh was the target of this attack. The Enweh Villagers believe the bombing was orchestrated to intimidate the government due to unproductive governmental negotiations regarding group rivalries in the nation. Anonymous sources on the ground claim that Nosferatu is supplying weapons to the Alwi Resistance Front. If true, this undermines Nosferatu's voiced support for peace and stability in the area.

THE PROTECTOR: MINYURA PART OF ARF, SAYS GOVERNMENT [10:03]

THE PROTECTOR: MINYURA PART OF ARF, SAYS GOVERNMENT [10:03]

The government of Discordia is stating that Jethro Minyura is not a peaceful farmer, but rather, is part of a rebel force in Discordia.

According to the government, Minyura is actually the head of the ARF, which was the reason for his detainment.

He was supposed to be released on Jun. 15th, but there are no documents of his release, nor has anyone seen him since then.

This predicament raises several questions. Is there proof that Minyura was part of the ARF? If so, why was he released? And if he was released, why is there no documentation of his release?

And, more importantly, what is Nosferatu's stance on this?

Though Cromwell has been criticized for its lack of attention for this story, it is vital to remember that Nosferatu has not answered either--and Nosferatu may be supplying arms to the government for anti-ARF tactics.

Does this include anti-dissident tactics? There is no conclusive proof either way, but it is time for Nosferatu to begin answering to the same standards as Cromwell--especially with the kinds of rumors that have been swirling around them.

(Thanks to the CDUL for informing us of the government's statements. The opinions included are our own.)

WPDB: NOSFERATU MAKES PROPOSAL TO DISCORDIAN GOVERNMENT

A high ranking Nosferatu official has confirmed that the company submitted a proposal for a relationship with the Discordian government for future oil extraction ventures. The deal includes the following provisions:

(1) Nosferatu would pay $1.5 billion dollars for the rights to extract oil in Block 77. Nosferatu is quoted saying, "We think it's a ludicrous amount of money, but we're ludicrous people."

(2) Nosferatu has guaranteed to make their best effort to achieve political stability.

(3) Nosferatu has pledged that their investment in the country will be evenly distributed across all regions. This includes infrastructure development.

(4) The company is offering a combination of infrastructure, investment, agricultural investment, cash and free loans to the government. These funds will go toward the construction of ports, electric grids, wells, pipelines, roads, fertilizer programs, the cocoa weevil project, etc.

(5) The company will work to promote peace and economic growth and equality. To do so, both rival factions in the government will be involved in decisions. Nosferatu has stated, "This is an unprecedented investment proposal for a country in the region. We are very deeply committed to the growth of the country."

The government has not yet replied to this offer. Nosferatu, meanwhile, has explained that it is "too early in the process" to release information regarding environmental principles or involvement of villagers/NGOs. The Patriot stands by its prior call for the immediate release of this information, as it is essential for the safeguarding of Discordian interests. These principles are first steps in a long process; the people of Discordia await more information on the nation's environmental and human rights principles.

Nurture announces that it has successfully secured funding from Cromwell Oil for a pilot project for] eradication of cocoa weevil

Nurture announces that it has successfully secured funding from Cromwell Oil for a pilot project using technology imported by Nurture for the eradication of the Cocoa weevil. Early findings are that the program has been a great success. The farms using the technology have seen their output soar, raising the incomes of farmers as their cash crops are exported to global markets. Nurture would like to launch this into a full fledged program across the country and is willing to be an equal contributor in any government-private alliance to support implementation. This has potentially huge impact in economic and environmental firms. It would disincentivize slash and burn farming and would support the economy of Discordia by increasing the viability of its third largest import. Nurture's track record in agricultural development is stellar; it recently won the "Goldstein Award for Sustainable Development" which praised it for "the most pragmatic and cost-effective project that brings sustainable development to disadvantaged rural communities in the Developing World." This technology is a potential win-win for all parties. It would support a pillar of the national economy, reduce rural discontent and protect the environment. Of all projects currently being suggested by NGOs this is the one with the most immediate tangible environmental and human benefits.

THE PROTECTOR-NGO COALITION MEETING RESULTS MIXED

As reported earlier, NGOs Nurture, Verdant Future and Humanity First held a meeting with Cromwell Oil. Cromwell Oil has released an optimistic press release about the results of this meeting. The purpose of the meeting was to attempt to get Cromwell Oil to push their environmental agenda, Cromwell Oil spokesperson Emad Kiyaei made an official statement to The Protector that "all parties were engaged and the creation of an external review committee has been established to bring the interests of NGOs and local communities forth in our meetings with the government. We are more than happy about this cooperation and we are hopeful for the future." Kiyaei also stated that he believed the stocks of Cromwell Oil will rise after this meeting and expressed confidence in his company and reiterated that shareholders have nothing to be concerned about. Open Books International will be representing the interests of all civil society groups in the forthcoming meetings between Cromwell Oil and the government. As for other NGO interests, Verdant Future released a statement to The Protector that they are gravely disappointed with the results of this and that it does not adequately represent all parties' interests. It will be interesting to watch this development and to see whether Verdant Future will be deported from Discordia again.

Violence increase in Western Discordia; Mindo support rebel forces

The ARF is increasing its military engagements in Western Discordia and specifically in and around Block 77. All parties to the current oil development still claim that peace is their primary objective. However, Enweh community leaders stress that if the government is not able to get the situation under control they might need to look elsewhere. Civil society groups on the ground are very concerned with the situation. The DAL is stating that the government need to demilitarize in the area saying that  'Militarization is alienating the people on the ground.' The international relief organization Nurture has confirmed that they are increasing engagment in the conflicting area and several other international human rights organization are speaking out against the military escalation. Humanity First says 'we are planning something BIG' to raise awareness and stop the violence.
The CDUL are working closely with the ARF, leaving speculators to wonder to what extend the ARF are in fact the military wing of the Unity League.
The CDUL denies these claims and are adament that they are a concerned mediator. They say the government have no idea how quickly the situation is escalating and report that the ARF are very strong and have almost unlimited support from the richer and more powerful neighboring country of Mindo.
The government are now in a meeting with the CDUL and we hope the issue will be settled soon.

Cromwell press release: Cromwell welcomes external commitee

Today Cromwell met with various members of the NGO commitee and representatives of the Emwe Community to address their needs and concerns. Cromwell has accepted the offer from the NGO, Verdant Futue, to create an extenal review commitee to collborate and cooperate with Open Books International to help bring the issues and needs of the community into discussions with the government.

Enweh Village BOMBED after Press Conference

The Enweh Village, located within a 5 mile radious from block 77 and with a population of 800 were bombed moments after their press conference, held at a nearby village.

The bombings killed several school children and 5 adults nearby the village school.

Responsibility of the bombings have not yet been confirmed but locals attribute the killings to the Alwi Resistance Front (ARF) who have openly spoken against the Enweh goals regarding them as contradictory to the benefit of their people.  More information to come as developments unravel.

THE PROTECTOR: NOSFERATU GIVING GOV'T ARMS TO FIGHT ARF [9:48]

THE PROTECTOR: NOSFERATU GIVING GOV'T ARMS TO FIGHT ARF [9:48]

A source close to a local NGO has provided The Protector with in-depth information on the status of the ARF, the government, and links to Nosferatu.

The government, they say, has been using force to take out the ARF. However, the government is running out of arms in this quest. That would be worrying enough.

Worse yet, however, is that there is reason to believe that Nosferatu is giving the government arms to fight the ARF in exchange for government cooperation with Nosferatu and its interests.

The source stressed that even with government arms, the ARF only grows stronger, as can be seen by recent history. Instability seems to be the driving force behind the strength of milita forces.

Our source stressed that if an oil company were to take hold in Discordia, better it be one that is concerned with transparency and human rights.

Cromwell seems to be gaining favor with Discordian affiliates as Nosferatu's actions become shadier and shadier.

In related ARF news, the CDUL tried to bring ARF and the government together to talk: the government, however, walked out of the conversation.

Villagers were recently attacked by the ARF, shortly after the conference. The number of injured/casualties is yet unknown, although we do know there were some.

The Mentor - Government Walks Away from ARF

The CDUL has informed the Mentor that the current unity government has walked away from talks with the ARF. This further lends credence to the turmoil present in Discordia. Coupled with rumors of dwindling government arms and the strengethening of the ARF this appears to indicate further civil unrest in Discordia which could serve to undermine the economic development of Block 77.

THE PROTECTOR: VERDANT FUTURE GRAVELY DISAPPOINTED BY MEETING WITH CROMWELL

Verdant Future released a private statement to The Protector "Cromwell has belittled the interests of the community and other NGOs by attempting to silence all but one of our voices, who are simply trying to stop the rape of this land by evil oil." The environmental group went on to say that "too many concessions are being made, soon we will have no voice at all. The Dwarf Rhino will be dead and the villagers will be covered in oil."

Cromwell press release: Condolences extended to victims of terror attack

Cromwell Oil expresses its deepest condolences and expresses regrets about the recent terror attack on its Block 77 Oil Operation.

Cromwell has sent representatives to express their personal condolences to the families of the victims - 2 Cromwell employees and 5 Emmer.

Miley Cyrus is writing a song memorializing the incident. The title of the song will be: Trying to find Heaven in Block 77

The Mentor - Clarification on OPI Brokering Joint Venture

In The Mentor¹s recent article, about OPI brokering a ³joint venture², we
wanted to publish a clarification that we in no way meant to represent that
OPI was trying to broker a joint business venture in the sense that Cromwell
and any other oil company that is trying to establish a contract will have a
any sort of shared revenue or production. OPI is brokering a set of
international standards for the oil industry to follow. Companies that sign
onto the deal would have completely separate operations, revenue streams,
costs and such. Under OPI, any and all companies that are in negotiations
will have to negotiate with both sides of the government. Under the guise of
the OPI transparency initiative, any companies would be prohibited form
establishing back ally deals with any single political party or other entity
in the country. Any companies that enter the bidding process will be subject
to these standards.

No interested oil companies have signed the agreement.
Nosferatu, who has not made any formal indication that they will be making a
bid for Block 77, did tell the Mentor that they are continuing to hold
individual meetings within various actors in the country. They have not yet
accepted OPI¹s standards. With Cromwell¹s stock taking a hit after a
short-lived rise. A joint venture or buy out by a major oil company is not
out of the realm of possibility.

Enweh Village BOMBED after Press Conference

The Enweh Village, located within a 5 mile radious from block 77 and with a population of 800 were bombed moments after their press conference, held at a nearby village.

Responsibility of the bombings have not yet been confirmed but locals attribute the killings to the Alwi Resistance Front (ARF) who have openly spoken against the Enweh goals regarding them as contradictory to the benefit of their people.

THE PROTECTOR: BOMB IN BLOCK 77 KILLS 2 CROMWELL, 5 EMMER

BREAKING: BOMB IN BLOCK 77 KILLS 2 CROMWELL, 5 EMMER

An anonymous source close to an NGO has said that arms are beginning to amass in Block 77 for the Alwi Militia, headed by the ARF.

There are reports that the ARF is growing stronger and stronger, and is starting to recruit members from the north.

A bomb has just killed 2 Cromwell employees and 5 Emmers.

Tensions are high on all sides, and outcomes are unclear. Will the government and its related companies finally take citizen concerns seriously, before they turn to the ARF? Or will they crack down with private security forces with rumors of mercenary involvement

The Mentor - Government Running out Arms

A protected source has informed the Mentor that the current government of Discordia may indeed be running out of arms. The source has further told the mentor that this could lead to a possible Arms deal that could be facilitated by one of the two major oil companies in Discordia. Of the two companies, Nosferatu, as the Mentor has already reported, has visible ties to its home countries arms production units.

When asked for a response Nsoferatu vehemently denied any such improprities offering that, "It is well within any country's rights to arm itself to maintain the integrity of its state. There already has been a fair amount of discrod in Discordia, wouldn't you say."

This reports come as the ARF is gaining strength in the region and causing concern for the local governements. The Enweh villagers said unless the government listens to their demands they will have no where to turn but towards the ARF.

Negotiations Have Been Underway Between Nosferatu and the Government

An anonymous source has just has stated to the Guardian that a 1.5 billion deal has been negotiated between the government and Nosferatu with the aims of providing infrastructure and pipelines for our great nation of Discordia.
A high ranking Nosferatu spokesperson has stated that the deal has been confirmed, whereas another Nosferatu spokesperson has agreed to go on record stating "negotiations are underway".
Our government has still not released any statement thus far confirming or denying the deal, but have promised statements later today.

Discordia / Cromwell unlikely to secure WB/IFC Block 77 Development Loan

Discordia / Cromwell unlikely to secure WB/IFC Block 77 Development Loan

At present, the Discordian government are unlikely to secure a WB/IFC Block 77 Development Loan, and enable Cromwell Oil to secure the contract, unless the government meets the following commitments:

1. Improvement in governance and civil service structures and upgrading of the integrity and competence.
2. Transparent and externally auditable reporting of all public revenues.
3. Agreement at government level of division of revenues between National, State, and Local Governments - especially for oil producing areas.
4. Clear commitments as to what percentages of the oil revenues would be spend on education, health, and stimulation of industry and agriculture.
5. Mechanism for coping with variations in oil price.

In addition, without meeting these commitments, it seems unlikely that Cromwell Oil will be able to fund the Block 77 project. On the contrary, Nosferatu Oil seems better positioned to fund the Block 77 project independently. To that end, more attention needs to be paid to the potential strength of Nosferatu's ability to secure arms for the Discordian Government to combat the ARF.

THE PROTECTOR: DISCORDIAN GOVERNMENT ON THE ENWEH VILLAGERS CONCERNS

Discordian government spokesperson released an official private statement to The Protector today emphasizing that "the government is working hard to address the concern of the Enweh villagers and strongly believe that the villages should not consider the rebel forces as an alternative. Siding with the ARF will only bring disastrous consequences". This comes in light of the recent statements made by the Enweh villagers that as a last resort, cooperation with the ARF would be considered.

WPDB: NOSFERATU AND CROMWELL OPENLY ARGUE ABOUT BUSINESS RELATIONSHIP/PRINCIPLES

During a recent meeting with NGOs, Cromwell and Nosferatu representatives openly sparred regarding the companies’ business relationships in South America. In an apparent attempt to bolster their credibility and foreshadowing a possible joint venture announcement, Nosferatu argued that it had a positive working relationship with Cromwell Oil. However, Cromwell employees fervently disputed this claim, calling Nosferatu’s business platform “unethical.” In fact, Cromwell is in the process of pulling out of its South American partnerships with Nosferatu. The altercation resulted in raised voices – sometimes shouting - and demonstrated the divide between Cromwell’s and Nosferatu’s approaches to oil extraction in Discordia.

WPDB - ARF amassing arms in Block 77; Government Loses Control

Anonymous sources have recently come forth to the WPDB to inform of a critical ammasment of arms in and around Block 77  by the ARF. The ARF represent a rising tension between the Alwi community and the government. The ARF have informed our source that they have lost faith in the government and particularly the NWA for being able to represent them in government.

Will the growing tensions throw the country back in to the throngs of battle?

BREAKING: THE PROTECTOR: ENWEH PRESS RELEASE [9:33]

Text:

"We are stakeholders in the decisions made by large Non-Governmental Organizations, International Organizations, Corporations and our Government.

Although our names do not appear on stock exchanges or have the title of "CEO" following them, we are stakeholders with our lives. Your decisions affect us. Your decisions determine the quality and dignity of our life. Therefore, we meet here not to protest, but to speak out and speak up for our traditions and our livelihood.

The ARF has proved to be detrimental to the causes of our great nation, and we do not want to work for or work with them. However, if our government continues to ignore our rights through corruption and greed we fear we will have nowhere else to turn.

We are citizens, and we demand equality of resources for development and protection. Let us work together to silence militia groups and strengthen the natural resources that can develop this country."
-The Enweh Villages

We at The Protector would like to strongly note the villagers' point about the ARF. Though, as they said, the ARF has showed itself to be detrimental to their values and goals, and even though they have no desire to work for they, they may end up turning to them because of the lack of cohesion in the government.

It is a sad day when villagers are forced to work with these sorts of forces, when the government is too corrupt and too intertwined with corporations with shady business practices to care for its citizens.

WPDB: NGO/Cromwell Meeting Produces Advisory Panel; Veto Power Debated

Verdant Future, Humanity First, Shared Heritage, the Discordian Amity League, local villagers and others met with Cromwell Oil today to discuss community and NGO involvement in future Cromwell oil extraction projects. During the meeting, Cromwell agreed to group requests for the creation of a review committee that will permit community and NGO involvement in business decisions. However, the company refused to grant this group veto authority in making decisions. Instead, the company noted that Open Books Insitute - an anti-corruption non-profit, will independently observe the company's activities. Representatives of Verdant Future noted, "We appreciate your transparency but we are expecting this kind of transparency throughout the process because most of the problems occur when the drilling starts." Two village elders from a local Discordian village will also be an integral part of discussions regarding oil revenue sharing in the nation. The NGOs group agreed this was an important first step but pressed for more involvement of environmental and human rights groups in company decisions.

DISCORDIA, 9:10AM

The United Government of Discordia is currently in session discussing the details of the proposed oil deals between the two competing companies, Cromwell Oil International Ltd., and Nosferatu Oil International.

The two major oil companies have been competing for the rights to develop the Block 77 area in the North-West region of Discordia.

Despite back and forth between the two companies, no deal has been struck and there is hope that the Unified Government of Discordia will step-in and announce the outcome of the negotiations some time today.

WPDB - Failed Joint Venture leads to slide in Cromwell Stock

After it was revealed that Cromwell and Nosferadu's Joint Venture in Latin-America failed due to imcompatibel environmental standards. Cromwell stock fell to 398 as it was reported that the strained relationship might not be able to mend fast enough to come to an agreement in Discorida.
Inside sources tell us that this deal is 'make or break' for Cromwell. Nosferadu at this point has a little bit more cushion and might be able to wait the situation out and go in and take over the whole development.
The development could have larger reprecusions for the entire Discordia. But nobody doubts that Enweh Community will be most affected. Cromwell is currently funding a School, a clinic with a physician and has been committed to sustainable development of Discordia. Cromwell says they are not at this point able to comment on the faith of these programs were they to pull out of Discordia.
Enweh Community leaders stress that they too are committed to their relationship with Cromwell but they are open to any developer who will be able to offer them the same favorable terms for economic growth.

THE PROTECTOR-NGO COALITION MEETING RESULTS MIXED?

As reported earlier, NGOs Nurture, Verdant Future and Humanity First held a meeting with Cromwell Oil. As for other NGO interests, Verdant Future appeared somewhat disconcerted as they emerged from the meeting, although they have not made an official statement as yet.

The Mentor - Discordia - Chaos Rules the Oil Companies, Not Just the Government

In a country where a unity government is trying to take hold, it appears that the two main rivals vying for the development of Block 77 are no better at dealing with each other than the NWA and Gangor factions of the Discordian government.

The current joint venture between Cromwell and Nosferatu appears plagued with problems at the managerial level. Neither company at this point has shown any assurances that they have the managerial mettle. The Mentor believes that if any such joint venture were to be undertaken in Discordia they situation in Latinia must be resolved first so the problems of the companies pasts do not haunt Discordias future.

THE PROTECTOR: VERDANT OPPOSES JOINT VENTURE [9:13]

THE PROTECTOR: VERDANT OPPOSES JOINT VENTURE [9:13]

Verdant Future has empathetically stated that they will not support any kind of joint venture between Cromwell and Nosferatu.

Interestingly, though they have protested hardest about Cromwell before--and though these concerns have not gone away--their major concerns seem to concern Nosferatu and their non-transparent business practices.

Nosferatu has been far less transparent than Cromwell thus far, often being inaccessible to press or refusing to speak to them.

Verdant's major concern is that there would be separate facilities in this venture, which would mean that Nosferatu would not have oversight. Separate facilities indicate a lack of convergence of ethical principles and a loophole out of socially responsible behavior.

Verdant will meet with other NGOs later this morning; more news as it arises.

Relations between Cromwell and Nosferatu Oil Strained

Reports have recently been released that Nosferatu and Cromwell are divesting in their Joint Venture in Latin America. Cromwell assured the WP that the reason was because of  "Low prspect of Exploration success." Meanwhile, WP's senior energy correspondent advises taht the real reaon is because of incompatibility between Nosferatu and Cromwell Oil International's Ethical Principles.
Cromwell denies these claims, but when asked whether this means that Cromwell have no problem working with Nosferatu in spite of the incompatible ethical standards Cromwell assured us that they would never engage in a partnership that did not comply with their ethical standards.
This comes in the water of the Cromwell-Beowoulf scandal, the village massacre associated with Cromwell security forces in Discordia and the admission by the Cromwell subsidiary DiscoCrom that their lubricants were used by clients for weapons manufacturing. All matters are still under investigation. However, as the cards are revealed Cromwell might not be able to hide behind their ethical standards much longer.

THE PROTECTOR-NOSFERATU: JOINT VENTURE "PREMATURE", CROMWELL STOCK FALLS

An official spokesperson at Nosferatu stated that any discussion of a joint venture with Cromwell Oil is premature at present. Nosferatu stated that any strained relations between the two companies is a "peripheral" issue. However when asked how a joint venture would affect the public perception of Nosferatu, a company that emphasizes its privacy as opposed to Cromwell's sophisticated PR mechanisms, the spokesperson Julie Simeone stated "That is very premature right now. We have not had talks of a joint venture. More will be known after our forthcoming meeting this morning". It would be interesting to see how the two companies will handle crucial issues of transparency in light of recent critcism. Cromwell shares are down, selling at 397.

THE PROTECTOR: HUMANITY FIRST & MINYURA [9:03]

THE PROTECTOR: HUMANITY FIRST & MINYURA [9:03]

Humanity First made a statement today about the appalling lack of concern for the unlawful detainment of Jethro Minyura, about which neither Cromwell nor Nosferatu has done anything.

Minyura, a peaceful farmer, was detained for protesting environmental devastation caused on the river near his village, and the economic hardship that was suffered as a result of the toxic chemical leak.

Though there were many vague promises about the matter, Cromwell has not made any actual reply or taken any actual action thus far. Humanity First believes that this shows a lack of commitment "to prevent human rights violations in the country."

Many find it ironic that the most transparent company so far is not being transparent at all on such a key issue.

Nosferatu, also looming large in the country, has not taken any action on this topic either.

Humanity First has said in the past that they would likely support the joint venture only if human rights issues are thoroughly addressed.

THE PROTECTOR: ENWEH STATEMENT [8:58]

THE PROTECTOR: ENWEH STATEMENT [8:58]

A preliminary statement has been made by the Enweh community on the topic of joint development by Cromwell and Nosferatu.

The general sentiment is that a joint venture would be amenable to the villagers, provided that the ultimate goal of development in the region is met.

However, they are still concerned with the ethical lapses of Nosferatu, and feel that the company has to come clean before they can gain villager support.

The Enweh community will make an official statement later this morning.

WPDB - Discordian Government put pressure on Civil Society to SHUT UP

Sources from within Discordia has leaked that the limited freedoms enjoyed by most civil society groups as well as the press have been revoked. Most were reluctant to come forth and stressed "This is off the record."
The news came only weeks after the government implementet several government reforms and reinstitutet the Army General as President of the Country. Although the changes at the time were reported as a positive move forward a closer look at the agrement, identifies a tightening of government control and an increase in Presidential power.
Shortly after this development the Shavian arms-trade mission visited the country and demonstrated the Werewolf Attack helicopter and the Dragon armoured personnel carrier. Since Shavia lost their NATO bid, they have been looking for new customers and might find a buyer in the increasingly militarized Discordian Government.
The Defense Minister declined to comment on the matter, but  the New York based human rights organization Humanity First said the turn of events was deplorable.

WPDB: Gangor Delta Alliance Refuses to Acknowledge/Condemn Arms Sales

The Gangor Delta Alliance, one party in the Discordian unity government, has refused to acknowledge the purchase of arms from the Shavian nation. When pressed to issue a principled condemnation of the arming of select factions within the nation, the Alliance refused. This development follows reports from the Patriot regarding alleged arms deals with Shavia, a nation whose economy continues to decline. Yesterday, the Patriot also reported that Nosforatu, a Shavian government-owned government, denies such rumors as the company continues to plan its entry into the Discordian oil industry. The failure for the Gangor Delta Alliance to issue a principled condemnation of the Shavian arms sales is troubling. This news comes at a particularly sensitive time for Discordia when the arming of select groups may further destabilize the nation. Humanity First, a local human rights non-profit, condemns such select arming of factions within the nation, calling it "deplorable."

Cromwell press release: Miley Cyrus signs endorsement deal

Worldwide beloved singer Miley Cyrus, daughter of uber-talented Billy Ray Cyrus, has signed an endorsement deal with Cromwell Oil. Cyrus recently released a single called "Discordia", with lyrics such as:

A benevolent bombshell, the best thing to happen to Discordia is Cromwell

The Mentor - A Joint Venture between Nosterafu and Cromwell in Discordia? Bad business for all

Cromwell stock has seen a significant increase with its expansion into
electricity projects and support for the Cocoa Weevil Eradication Pilot
Program. The strength puts Cromwell in good position to solidify the
contract with the Discordian government on control of oil production.
However the Discordian government opening the bid for the oil contract,
which has the potential for big returns for both corporate investors and the
government of Discordia, is detrimental to the long-term success of the
company.

However with an attempted coup in neighboring Lingama and a tenuously
unified government in the country of Discordia, Open Book International has
been at the forefront of trying to broker a joint venture between Nosterafu
and Cromwell. The venture would be monitored by OPI and require financial
transparency, and restrictions on spending revenue for arms purchases by the
government. The agreement, crafted by OPI, has yet to be officially accepted
by either oil company or the government of Discordia, although a
representative of OPI reports that they have received positive feedback from
all parties.

While Open Book claims that a join corporate venture would be the only
way to ensure political stability and the most beneficial outcome for all
parties, there are serious doubts to the feasibility of such a venture. The
venture would be a 50-50 sharing of potential resources. Both Nosferatu and
Cromwell would have equal access to oil resources but would build and
operate separate facilities. Any sort of joint venture seems untenable given
that relations between Cromwell and Nosterafu Oil re very strained as a
result of a Joint Venture in South America. Cromwell is considering
divesting its share in that particular Joint Venture-publicly on the grounds
of ³low prospect of Exploration success² but in fact due to concerns about
in compatibility of the association with Nosterafu with Cromwell Oil
International¹s Ethical principles.

Also in light probable links between Nosferatu arms trade deal
backing its oil contract, this is a potential source of conflict between the
companies. With a lack of transparency, Nosferatu could provide a dangerous
source of investment for Discordia. It could exacerbate the tenuous
government unity recently announced. The region needs the stability of a
company like Cromwell that is far more transparent and ethical than
Nosterafu that is associated with arms trade.
