The ridiculous developments occurring in Discordia recently point to the shambles that is the government and the extent to which corporate entities are willing to go to get a piece of the sweet oil pie.
A well-respected analyst stated: “Things have become ridiculous. I will not be surprised if and when the Discordian government decides to nationalize oil.”
Nonetheless Cromwell was able to redeem itself in the last minute.
The oil companies’ joint venture in Discordia is sketchy to say the least and this is likely to continue to have disastrous consequences for the Discordians.
Discocrom employees have joined the Discordian government in an advisory role. The situation is degrading by the minute.
Bribery, corporate branches seceding to join the corrupt government, even NGOs in need of funding are conspiring with corrupt corporations- what else will we hear?
To what extent are these shameless actors willing to behave irresponsibly? The Discordian people have suffered from this RESOURCE CURSE for long enough.
Furthermore, some corporations were almost suffering the brunt of their damage. The rumors of a potential buyout of British national symbol Cromwell by a supermajor oil company would have meant a loss of heritage.
It remains to be seen how this CSR minded “ethical” corporation will reconcile its policies with Nosferatu.
The news that Cromwell was able to redeem itself in the last minute does not change the fact that it was almost at a great loss.
But perhaps this is the price that we have to pay for years of colonialism and an extension of this colonialism in to the resource industry.
Western companies have been allowed to continue their bad corporate practices for long enough, and this ridiculous situation should serve as a wake-up call to all those who have only thought of plundering another country’s oil for so long.
