The Protector reported several months ago that Beowulf Integrity Ltd, a UK based private security firm was said to be hired by Cromwell for their project in Discordia.
Cromwell stated at the time that although security is a top priority, they are not in the practice of hiring mercenary firms in order to carry out their security and that it would be done in accordance with international standards. Whilst Beowulf has not directly been confirmed as working with Cromwell, its recent activities in attempting to stage a coup in Hortensia cast doubt over how suitable a security firm of this sort would be.
The mercenaries were disguised as villagers bringing produce to the market in the capital of Hortensia. One of the instigators of the Hortensia coup is also the brother of the Managing Director of Beowulf.
This, along with Beowulf's past practices cast a dubious light on Cromwell's assertions that they are committed to promoting dialogue and civility in Discordia. A representative at Cromwell stated that they had still not decided whether they would be using Beowulf as security but that this decision would be made after weighing "the pros and the cons". Clearly the cons of employing such a ruthless mercenary organization do not measure heavily enough against the benefit. Certainly it is difficult to see how an "ethical" company like Cromwell is employing these ruthless.
The Discordian government stated that if the allegations of Beowulf's employment by Cromwell were true, they would be deeply concerned and that this would potentially cast a negative light on their partnership.
