THE PROTECTOR: HUMANITY FIRST OPPRESSION REPORT [5:14]
Humanity First has provided The Protector with a statement on the recent oppression of local human rights advocates. Summarized:
HF feels alarmed about the security of local human rights NGOs, and urges the government to stop harassment and intimidation of these groups.
They report the following:
- That two members of the DAL have been murdered over the last two years during investigation of government practices (corruption, arbitrary force).
- That members of the DAL have been threatened by unknown people and have been told that if they do not leave, "they will only have themselves to blame for what follows." Several members have been beaten badly after these threats, with one raped.
- That widespread "disappearances" and tortures have occurred.
Humanity First is concerned that the perpetrators are unknown, making it difficult to charge parties with the crime and causing human rights advocates to worry about their survival.
The Protector also feels that the NGOs are a very necessary force for positive change in Discordia, especially amongst the disorder that may occur thanks to any oil influence, and that their protection must be assured. Silence on this issue will only indicate irresponsibility on the part of those in charge.
